BODs of NAPDA

Roy Bird is graduate of the RCMP in house training program. He was a peace officer in Strathcona County for 22 years before his retirement in 2013. He also served with Kiwanis International as an International Board Member, running for President in Geneva in 2011, coming in a close second. Roy is skilled at assembling a team and having them work together for a shared outcome. Being from a pioneer family (his forebears have been in Alberta since the late 1700's), Roy is passionate about preserving the history of the area through NAPDA and proud that the Pioneer Cabin lets us continue that work.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Veronica is passionate about connecting with the Edmonton community and supporting treasures like the NAPDA and the Pioneer's Cabin. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Art History from the University of Toronto Veronica has an interest in preserving and sharing our City's history and connecting those stories with today's context. Veronica believes the NAPDA is uniquely positioned to become a community hub for historical associations across Edmonton and examine the Pioneer story alongside Edmonton's modern Pioneers. The Pioneers Cabin is an extraordinary landmark nestled within the River Valley, after hosting her wedding there in 2018, the Cabin holds a special place in Veronica's heart and she believes it should be enjoyed by all Edmontonians for years to come. In her professional life, Veronica is a Search Manager with Optimum Talent recruiting for executive positions across the private and public sector. She is pursuing her professional Human Resources designation and brings governance knowledge, recruitment experience, human resources background and passion for supporting the Edmonton community to the NAPDA team.

Garrett Wengreniuk is an information technology business owner and consultant who specializes in business intelligence software, financial systems and data integration. With nearly 30 years of experience in the IT industry coupled with the MBA program from Athabasca University, he brings technical and operations expertise to NAPDA and The Pioneer Cabin, based on years of senior roles with large Canadian and international companies within North America. His past senior director and executive roles with Liquor Stores NA, Trader Corporation and Clearstream Energy provide a wide range of cross-industry experience and being a small business owner rounds out his knowledge of all aspects of practical and responsible business management. Garrett volunteers with a number of local and international organizations and nonprofits, and leads an annual trip of 20 voluntourists to Central America to build houses and schools in impoverished areas. He sees the Pioneer Cabin as an important piece of Edmonton history, connecting current innovators and pioneers with those that first laid those foundations over a hundred years ago, while also providing a beautiful venue for events and weddings that shows off our beautiful Edmonton river valley. He has served on the board of NAPDA since early 2019.

Christine Monterrosa, CPA, CFE is a Forensics and Litigation Support Manager in MNP LLP’s Edmonton office. Christine has over 7 years of forensic accounting and assurance services. She is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science, has a Diploma in Accounting from the University of British Columbia, and is a designated Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner. Christine has experience in fraud investigations, forensic accounting, and litigation support for engagements related to workplace fraud and theft, employee misconduct, and shareholder disputes. She has worked with a diverse client base, including corporations, law firms, government agencies, First Nations and Not-for-Profit organizations.

Stephanie Vogelaar is a Talent Acquisition Advisor at Canadian Western Bank (CWB), where she leads all recruitment processes and engagements for the prairie commercial banking team and nationally for the equipment financing team. Stephanie obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from MacEwan University, a Project Management Certificate from NAIT, and is currently a CPHR Candidate with CPHR Alberta. Stephanie is dedicated to continuous professional development and brings a wealth of human resource knowledge and business development expertise to the NAPDA Board. Stephanie is a proud and passionate Edmontonian who believes in harnessing the history of our city to create a better, more connected future for everyone.

After completing his Masters of Coaching, Jonathan spent the first years of his career as a post-secondary basketball Coach for institutions such as University of Alberta and MacEwan University. Since then, Jonathan has been utilizing his coaching expertise in industries such as recruitment and leadership development and most recently, he has been running a private investment organization. Jonathan’s expertise in business development and his connectivity in the local market will give NAPDA the ability to leverage new private sector relationships to increase bookings and revenue for the Pioneer’s Cabin.

Ron completed his Bachelor of Commerce at MacEwan University and holds three additional designations including Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS). During his time in university, Ron established a career in the hospitality industry as a General Manager, with full budgetary oversight, human resource management and event management. Currently, Ron is an Advisor with Canada’s largest financial management organization where he specializes in maximizing wealth and reducing risk for his clients across Central Alberta. Ron’s expansive and diverse network, financial acumen and event management exposure will provide NAPDA with the expertise required to diversify rental capabilities for the Pioneer’s Cabin.
